What is gynecology?

Gynecology at Women's Preventive Healthcare includes comprehensive women’s health care services for women of all ages.

The team of specialists offers wellness exams, Pap smears, breast exams, diagnostic testing, birth control, and more to help you maintain optimal health and detect gynecological conditions before they become problematic.

What happens during a gynecology exam?

When you arrive for a women’s health exam at Women's Preventive Healthcare, your provider completes several services, including:

Vital signs check

Your Women's Preventive Healthcare specialist weighs you and checks your pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs. They may request a urine sample.

Physical exam

Your gynecology specialist completes a comprehensive physical exam, which includes a pelvic exam. During the exam, your provider inserts a speculum into your vagina and takes a sample of cells from your cervix (Pap test) so a lab can screen for signs of cervical cancer.

Your physician also completes a breast exam and can refer you for a mammogram if you’re due for one.

Diagnostic testing

In addition to screening for cervical cancer, your gynecology specialist might recommend blood tests, pregnancy tests, urine tests, ultrasound, or other diagnostic imaging procedures to detect gynecological conditions.

Examples include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and other causes of pelvic pain or heavy uterine bleeding. They can test you for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and chronic diseases.

Will I need treatment?

If you’re in good health, treatment may not be necessary after a gynecological exam. Your Women's Preventive Healthcare practitioner offers immunizations, birth control, dietary supplements, and prescription medications to keep you healthy or treat a disease before it becomes serious.

Your gynecology provider offers hormone replacement therapy to reduce hot flashes, vaginal dryness, fatigue, weight gain, and other symptoms of menopause.

The Women's Preventive Healthcare experts provide medical weight loss using custom meal plans that match your lifestyle and preferences.

Don’t let gynecological problems or other women’s health issues go undetected and lead to serious complications. Schedule a women’s wellness exam with Women's Preventive Healthcare over the phone or online today.
